Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
Kirk E. Whetstone, MD, is a board-certified physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist with additional fellowship training in pain management. His focus is in medical spine management.
As a medical spine specialist, Dr. Whetstone provides comprehensive management and coordination of spine care, including diagnostic evaluation, rehabilitation planning, referral for surgery, interventional spine procedures, behavioral health screening, and lifestyle modifications such as weight management. He also has a special interest in intramuscular stimulation, which is a treatment for myofascial pain syndromes.
His interest in medical spine management stems from the desire to help educate patients about their spine conditions, which can often be confusing and emotional due to loss of function and associated lifestyle hardships. His hope is to help advocate for healthier, more active lifestyles and improved quality of life in patients with acute and chronic spine conditions.
Dr. Whetstone received his undergraduate degree from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio and his medical degree from Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine in Dayton, Ohio. He completed his residency and pain medicine fellowship at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle, Washington.
In his spare time, Dr. Whetstone enjoys hiking, camping, running and cooking. He also is an Ohio State sports fan.
